BlackBerry, earlier called Research in Motion, is a Canadian smartphone-maker that made a name selling QWERTY devices. However, it is struggling to stay relevant in a world dominated by iOS and Android.  After years of backing its own BB OS, the company has decided to make an Android smartphone in a bid to grab a small chunk of the smartphone pie it used to dominate, earlier. So, Blackberry Evolve smartphone was launched in August 2018. It has a 5.99-inch touchscreen display with a resolution size of 1080 pixels x 2160 pixels. The price tag with this smartphone is Rs 24,990.

Camera

On the camera front, the BlackBerry Evolve X features a 12-megapixel primary sensor and 13-megapixel secondary sensor at the rear. The Evolve, on the other hand, features a 13-megapixel (f/2.0) + 13-megapixel (f/2.0) dual rear cameras. For the front, both of them features 16-megapixel selfie camera with wide angle, Bokeh mode and studio mode. When tested, the photos came out really good in ideal lighting condition. It would be interesting to see the performance of the camera under different lighting conditions.

The Blackberry smartphone comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal Storage.

Hardware and Software

The  Blackberry Evolve is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor along with Adreno 509 GPU. There is a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Snapdragon 660 chipset powers the Evolve X and you get 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Right now, it is too early to comment on the performance, looking at the sheer specifications, both the phones look overpriced.

 The Evolve and Evolve X come loaded with Android 8.1 Oreo. Certainly, blackBerry owns the responsibility for OS security . You get a host of apps that safeguard of your phone’s privacy like DTEK by BlackBerry. Then there is an app to optimise the performance of the device. It is known as Power Centre. There are a couple of more applications which we will soon explore in our reviews. The company claims that it has taken care of the security at the hardware level as well.

Battery and Connectivity

At the battery front, both the phones support 4,000mAh battery with Boost Charge technology, which is made using Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0.

The Connectivity options are inclusive of USB 2.0 Type-C port, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5 LE and GPS + GLO-+8NASS. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG, USB Type-C and FM. Sensors on the phone have Face unlock, Fingerprint sensor, Compass/ Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor and Gyroscope.
